Skating poster, 1954


Poster from the 1953 – 1954 Scottish figure amateur skating championships held at Murrayfield skating rink in Edinburgh.

Held on the 23rd April 1954, the event included free skate tests and compulsory figure sessions throughout the day and evening.
Murrayfield ice rink was opened in August 1952 by the Edinburgh Lord Provost James Miller. Upon opening, the ice rink had 1200 pairs of skates which could be hired by visitors and was managed by a Mr A.A. Archer who the press stated had ‘wide experience of ice presentations and sport in London’s huge arenas.’
