Sculptor Elizabeth Helen Alexander was born in Glasgow in 1862. She had four sisters Mary, Catherine, Lily and Helen. She is described in newspaper articles as being a ‘scholar and sculptor’. In 1934 she was awarded an Honorary Degree (Doctor of Law) by Glasgow University on the installation of their new chancellor Daniel M Stevenson, the only woman to be so recognised on this occasion.
